PinoyinDubai chats with Kenneth Surat

PINOY IN DUBAI chats with Kenneth Surat, who is not only an architect and interior designer in Dubai, but also a travel and foodie blogger of kennethsurat.com and thetravelingjournalproject.com.

What brought you to Dubai?
Like most of us, I came here in Dubai because of a job opportunity. After college, I applied for a job back in the Philippines for an Architectural Design Firm here in Dubai. To be honest, I didn't have that much idea about Dubai. That is why when they said that I got the job, more than the excitement I was really nervous.

Describe a typical day.
A typical day for me is either you will see me designing or researching for a trend in terms of architecture and events set design or exploring all corners of Dubai, especially those hidden treasures here in the sandpit. The ideal day for me though will be riding my bike and finding a place to sit or lay down and dream of traveling the world.

What is the best thing about living in Dubai?
The diverse population. Everywhere you look you will find someone who is not of the same nationality as you. This is making Dubai a rich collection of different cultures (and yes, food)!

And the difficulties?
The weather. After almost nine years in Dubai, I am still dreading to be here when June strikes especially that I love the outdoors.

What advice would you have give to those looking to move in Dubai?
Dream big, strive for greatness and have faith in God. Dubai is a city that is full of opportunities waiting for those who are willing to grab it.
