Pokemon Go: Tips and Tricks in Dubai

Pokémon Go has already reached Dubai even when the popular virtual reality app hasn't been released yet.

If you've downloaded it through APK or switching your iTunes region, here are some tips and tricks when starting to play the game in Dubai.

This is a PokeStop.
It’s a real-world location where you can find Poke Balls, Lucky Eggs, Raspberry, Potions and more.

The PokeStop will change its shape when you walk close enough. Spin it with your finger to collect the items.

This is a Gym.
Teams battle for control of these real-world locations. In Dubai, most of the landmarks are Dubai Metro stations, some hotels and more.

Assign one of your Pokemon to an open Gym to claim it for your team. Strengthen a friendly Gym by assigning one of your Pokemon to help defend it.

Most of the gyms in Dubai are already taken. Remember, the teams are as follows:
RED = Valor (Moltres) focuses on battles.
BLUE = Mystic (Articuno) focuses on evolving Pokemon.
YELLOW = Instinct (Zapdos) focuses on hatching eggs.

Notes on Gyms
SAME COLOUR=Train Pokemon, Raise Gym Prestige for your Team Colour.
DIFFERENT COLOUR=Challenge Team Pokemon, Lower Gym Prestige for other Team Colour and chance to take over the Gym.

How to battle in the Gym
Swipe left or right to dodge incoming attacks from the opponent’s Pokémon.

Starting Pokemon
You have three (3) options to choose from:
Fire = Charmander
Water = Squirtle
Earth/Grass = Bulbasaur

Tip: If you want to get Pikachu as your starting Pokemon, pick each three (3) Pokemon and ‘run away’. Once you see the fourth Pokemon in your location, Pikachu will emerge for you to catch.

You may come across Pokemon Eggs at a PokeStop. The eggs will hatch after enough steps (2km, 5km, 10km) have been taken. The Pokemon maybe something you’ve never encountered before.

Pokemon Types
There are 18 types of species that includes: Bug, Dark, Dragon, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Grass, Ground, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic, Rock, Steel, and Water.

There is a new level identifier for Pokemons called Combat Points (CP). The Pokemons you catch have random CP. You can use Stardust and Candy to power up a Pokemon to increase its CP.

As Pokemon gains CP, they also have a chance to evolve using Pokemon Candy. The more you catch the same Pokemon, the more you can gain Pokemon Candy of the same type by transferring duplicate Pokemon to Professor Wilson.
