Off-road motorcycles will be banned in parts of Dubai

A new rule will take effect in six months has been confirmed by Dubai Police with the directive of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai. The new rule prohibits off-road bikes and quad bikes in residential areas and other areas marked as restricted.

The initiative is aimed to reduce fatal accidents in the emirate. Last year, seventeen motorcycle riders have died in accidents between 16 and 25 years old.

"The new rules will definitely reduce the number of motorcycle accidents and deaths. It will also organise the use of motorcycling among youth," said Brig Saif Al Mazroui, Director of Dubai traffic police.
